Türkiye from Canada & Australia: Visa, Safety, Cost 2026
Canadian and Australian ordinary passport holders need no visa and no e-Visa for Türkiye: you are stamped in for up to 90 days in any 180-day period. Both governments rate the country "exercise a high degree of caution", with stricter advice only for the Syria and Iraq border provinces that no tourist itinerary uses. Ten days is the realistic minimum from either country, and a private, fully guided 10-day trip runs $3,300 per person in Classic, $4,800 in Comfort and $6,500 in Luxury — land costs, domestic flights, hotels, guiding and entries included, international airfare separate.

Entry rules — nothing to apply for
Ordinary Canadian passports are visa-exempt for tourism and business. There is nothing to apply for and nothing to pay before you fly; you are stamped in at passport control. Ordinary Australian passports are visa-exempt for tourism. Anyone quoting you a fee for a Türkiye tourist e-Visa on an Australian passport is a third-party agent.
The one document rule that catches people out is passport validity: Türkiye asks for at least 150 days of validity beyond your arrival date, which is stricter than the six-month rule of thumb people remember. Check the expiry date on both your passport and your children's before you book long-haul tickets.

Safety — what your own government says
Canada's advice for Türkiye is "Exercise a high degree of caution, with stricter regional advisories for the Syria and Iraq border areas". Australia's Smartraveller uses the same overall wording: "Exercise a high degree of caution, with higher levels for the Syria and Iraq border areas". That is the level both governments also apply to several Western European destinations, and it is not a recommendation against travel.
Every region on a standard itinerary — Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Pamukkale, Antalya, the Aegean coast — sits well outside the areas either government singles out. The specific advice that matters day to day is ordinary city sense: use licensed taxis or the BiTaksi app, keep bags closed in crowded bazaars, and decline invitations from strangers to bars in Beyoğlu and Taksim, which is the one scam both advisories describe by name.
- Emergency number across Türkiye: 112 (ambulance, fire and police).
- Tourism Police in Istanbul speak English and handle visitor incidents.
- Travel insurance is not checked at the border but both governments strongly recommend it, including for hot-air balloon flights.
How long to come for, from Canada and Australia
From Canada, Turkish Airlines flies nonstop from Toronto, Montréal and Vancouver to Istanbul; Air Canada and one-stop European carriers add capacity. Flight time is about 10 hours from Toronto or Montréal, about 12 from Vancouver, so a 10-day trip gives you eight clean touring days.
From Australia, There is no true nonstop from Australia. Expect one stop — Turkish Airlines via Singapore, or Emirates, Qatar, Etihad and Singapore Airlines through their hubs. Door to door is about 21–25 hours door to door with one stop, and jet lag is real in both directions — we do not recommend anything under 12 days from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth.
| From | Minimum | Best length | What it covers |
|---|---|---|---|
| Canada | 8 days | 10 days | Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus and Pamukkale at a normal pace |
| Australia | 10 days | 12–14 days | The same four regions plus Antalya or the Aegean coast, with a recovery day on arrival |
What a trip actually costs from Canada or Australia
Our land price is a flat daily rate per person: $330 Classic, $480 Comfort, $650 Luxury. It covers hotels with breakfast, a licensed private guide on every touring day, a private vehicle, all entrance fees and the domestic flights between regions. Groups of three or more receive a group discount automatically.
International airfare is the one line that differs sharply by home country: typically USD 800–1,400 return in economy, higher over Christmas and July from Canada, and typically USD 1,300–2,200 return in economy, higher in December–January from Australia. Budget separately for lunches and dinners, a balloon flight in Cappadocia and tips.
| Trip | Classic | Comfort | Luxury | Typical return airfare |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 10 days from Canada | $3,300 | $4,800 | $6,500 | USD 800–1,400 |
| 12 days from Australia | $3,960 | $5,760 | $7,800 | USD 1,300–2,200 |
| 14 days from Australia | $4,620 | $6,720 | $9,100 | USD 1,300–2,200 |
Practical details that differ for Canadians and Australians
- Power: Türkiye uses 230 V type C and F sockets. Canadian devices need a plug adapter and dual-voltage chargers; Australian devices need only a plug adapter.
- Money: cards work almost everywhere. Notify your Canadian or Australian bank of travel dates, and pay in lira, never in the 'your currency' option an ATM offers.
- SIM: an eSIM bought before departure is cheaper than a tourist SIM at the airport, and foreign handsets are blocked after about 120 days on a Turkish SIM — irrelevant for a holiday.
- Time difference: Türkiye is UTC+3 year-round, so 7 hours ahead of Toronto and 7–9 hours behind eastern Australia depending on daylight saving.
- Flights home: from Australia, the connection back through the Gulf or Singapore usually means a very early departure from Istanbul — we build that into the last day rather than selling you a tour that morning.
Frequently asked questions
Do Canadians need a visa for Türkiye in 2026?
No. Ordinary Canadian passports are visa-exempt for tourism and business. There is nothing to apply for and nothing to pay before you fly; you are stamped in at passport control. Your passport must still be valid for at least 150 days beyond your arrival date.
Do Australians need a visa or e-Visa for Türkiye?
No. Ordinary Australian passports are visa-exempt for tourism. Anyone quoting you a fee for a Türkiye tourist e-Visa on an Australian passport is a third-party agent. The stay limit is 90 days in any 180-day period, for tourism or business.
Is Türkiye safe for Canadian and Australian travellers?
Both governments use the same overall wording — "exercise a high degree of caution" — and restrict their stronger advice to the Syria and Iraq border provinces, which no tourist itinerary includes. Istanbul, Cappadocia, Ephesus, Pamukkale and the Mediterranean coast are covered by the ordinary advisory.
How many days do I need in Türkiye coming from Australia?
Twelve to fourteen. One stop each way and 21–25 hours of travel mean you lose the better part of two days in the air, so a 10-day trip from Australia leaves only seven touring days. From Canada, 10 days works comfortably.
How much does a Türkiye trip cost from Canada?
A 10-day private, fully guided trip is $3,300 per person in Classic, $4,800 in Comfort and $6,500 in Luxury, including hotels, guiding, entries, private transport and domestic flights. Add roughly USD 800–1,400 for return airfare from Toronto, Montréal or Vancouver.
How much does a Türkiye trip cost from Australia?
A 12-day private trip is $3,960 per person in Classic, $5,760 in Comfort and $7,800 in Luxury, plus roughly USD 1,300–2,200 for one-stop return airfare from Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane or Perth.
When is the best time to visit Türkiye from Canada or Australia?
April to early June and mid-September to October. April–June and September–October (Australian autumn and spring shoulders) line up neatly with Australian shoulder seasons, and Canadians avoid both the July heat and the Christmas airfare spike.
Are domestic flights inside Türkiye included in your prices?
Yes. Economy domestic flights between regions are included in Classic and Comfort, and business class in Luxury. Flight days are scheduled as morning departures with no guided programme, so you are never rushed between a sight and an airport.
